Sleep and its importance (Health Care)
Some experts suggest that one ought to spend about one third of his or her lives sleeping. This isn’t just a “time out” from daily life. Scientists have shown the brain to be highly active during sleep. The different types of brain activity occurring during our sleep are critical for renewing different aspects of our mental and physical health each day. Very simply, poor sleep leads to poor health, but well balanced sleep leads to a well balanced life.
Sleep needed by different groups
Infants
About 16 hours of sleep per day
Babies and toddlers
From 6 months to 3 years: between 10 and 14 hours per day. Infants and young children generally get their sleep from a combination of nighttime sleep and naps.
