Tips to prevent or avoid drug abuse -Dangers of drug abuse
1, Dangers of Drug abuse
Drug Abuse affects your brain in the same way stress does. Long-term usage of drugs makes users more prone to everyday stress compared to Non-users.
Long after effects of the drug stop are felt, the drug can still be in the body. For example, cocaine can be found in the body up to one week and marijuana up to four weeks after a single use.
Drugs can cause the brain to send the wrong signals to the body. This can happen the first time a drug is used.
In healthcare professionals, problems show up on the job only after finances have been destroyed, families are alienated and the abuser has dropped out of their customary recreational activities. It may be possible that healthcare professionals miss less work because they get their drugs at work.
Estimates are 10 to 15% of all healthcare professionals are misusing drugs at some times in their careers. This is the same numbers that apply to the general population. While medical professionals abuse drugs at the same percentage rate as the general population, their choice of addictive substances is different. Healthcare professionals tend to use benzodiazepines and opiates. Use of recreational drugs such as marijuana and cocaine is lower than in the general population.
